The course programme introduces you to a comprehensive study of the biblical sources of Christianity as well as its history, and its doctrinal, ethical and pastoral aspects, including its relations to economics, politics, culture and biotechnology. As a prospective student, it is recommended that you would have a good grounding for the teaching of religion at secondary school level or to exercise certain forms of pastoral ministry and community work. This course is ideal if you wish to prepare for further specialised training in Theology, or would like to relate faith to their own work, professional or social responsibilities. By the end of the course, you will be able to demonstrate your acquired knowledge and understanding of the subject by carrying out a research-based dissertation. The Department of Theology encourages you to participate in an Erasmus+ mobility programme, for a more diverse and multicultural academic journey.

Communication and Academic Skills Programme

The communication and academic skills programme complements students’ main course of study. It introduces them to writing and presenting as situated within academic contexts sensitive to specific disciplines and develops their competences for future careers.

This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2019 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Theology - B.A. (Hons) Theology - under the auspices of the Faculty of Theology.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

Understand the relationship between philosophical and theological reflection, spiritual growth, and witnessing to faith.
Explain, having examined in detail, Christian beliefs about the Trinitarian God, the Incarnation, and the History of Salvation.
Communicate theologically-based responses on the Bible and the Teachings of the Church.
Understand and accept the Sacred Scripture as God's revelation throughout the history of the Jewish people in the Old Testament right up to the culmination of revelation in Jesus Christ.
Critically analyse different views concerning religious experience.
Explain in detail the major developments that occurred in the Church and in theology as the Church sought to keep the Christian tradition alive throughout the ages.

Understand and accept the Sacred Scripture as God's revelation throughout the history of the Jewish people in the Old Testament right up to the culmination of revelation in Jesus Christ,
Understand the relationship between philosophical and theological reflection, spiritual growth, and witnessing to faith.
